Rita is responsible for maintaining international student files, oversee student supports for international students, confirm and report international student enrolment to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Failure to appear as an active student, will be reported.

If you’re an international student, there are two main types of health insurance:
- Mandatory student health plans provided through your college or university (such as UHIP, GuardMe, StudyInsured, or Studentcare).
- Private insurance companies and brokers that sell health insurance for international students, visitors, and newcomers.
Student health insurance providers
- UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan) – Mandatory for most international students at Ontario universities.
- GuardMe International Insurance – Used by many colleges including Sheridan and Georgian.
- Studentcare / CIHIP – International student health plans for many colleges and universities.
- StudyInsured – Used by several Ontario school boards and educational institutions.

There are several organizations that provide career counselling, employment support, peer support, settlement services, and mental health counselling.
Career counselling and employment support
- Employment Halton (Oakville) – Free career services including one-on-one career counselling, résumé and cover letter assistance, interview preparation, job search support, career workshops, and hiring events. These services are available to Halton residents.
- Job Skills Newmarket – A non-profit employment service offering career planning, job search assistance, interview coaching, and employer connections.
- HMC Connections (Halton Multicultural Council) – Provides employment services specifically for newcomers to Canada, including career assessments, résumé reviews, mock interviews, networking events, and job fairs. They have an office in Georgetown.
Settlement services for international students and newcomers
- Halton Multicultural Council (HMC) – Offers newcomer settlement support, orientation to life in Canada, language resources, employment preparation, and community connections. It is one of the primary organizations serving newcomers in Halton Region.
Peer counselling and mental health support
- Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Halton Region – Offers peer support programs led by trained peer mentors with lived experience, as well as support groups and mental health navigation services. Self-referrals are accepted.
- Town of Halton Hills Community Support Resources – Maintains a directory of local mental health, crisis, counselling, and wellness services for residents, including youth resources.
Newcomer and multicultural organizations
- Halton Multicultural Council (HMC Connections) – Settlement services, employment assistance, language support, youth programs, and community integration for newcomers in Halton.
- Carrefour Interculturel Peel–Halton – French-language cultural, employment, entrepreneurship, and youth programs serving Peel and Halton.
- Peel Immigration – Regional newcomer portal with an interactive map of settlement agencies, language services, community organizations, and events.
